Ed, Edd, n Eddy's Jingle Jingle Jangle Review

Greetings and Merry Christmas Ladies and Gents! It is I, The Shaman of Animation back again! We Christmas is here once again folks. kids are unwrapping the presents, eggnog is being drunk...drunken...drank...whatever. and the family is coming together for this joyous time of the year. But folks, nothing puts you in the Christmas mood like the Christmas T.V. specials that come around during this time of the year. You all know the ones: The Classic Rudolph special, Frosty The Snowman, Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer you name it. Today folks, we're going to look at a special that's...a little different from those I mentioned before: Today, we look at The Ed, Edd, n Eddy Christmas Special: Jingle, Jingle, Jangle.

Ed, Edd, n Eddy's Jingle, Jingle, Jangle begins on Christmas Eve with Eddy sneaking into the attic of his house in pursuit of the Christmas Presents his parents are keeping hidden away from him. Taking a peek at the presents, Eddy is distraught and enraged when it turns out that for another year, Eddy's received clothes as his presents for Christmas. As his hastily tearing through his presents in hope of something other than clothes, the flashlight he brought with him to the attic shines through the window in his house across the Cul-De-Sac.

Meanwhile, all the way at the trailer park, The Kanker Sisters are celebrating the holiday season their own special way: with Christmas crackers, each coming with their own crown. The three sisters put their festivities on hold when they spot the light in the sky. Putting on some jackets and their crowns, the sisters travel to find the source of the light.

This little subplot is actually a parody of The Story of The Three Kings (A.K.A the Three Wiseman, A.K.A the Magi. Whichever you prefer). The sisters on their journey come across mold, franks, and cents (Spoofing the gold, frankincense, and myrrh the kings brought as gifts). As a matter of fact, there are a lot of shout outs to other Christmas Songs and specials. The very title of this special is a reference to the song "Jingle Jangle Jingle" originally sung by Dick Thomas and made famous by Kay Kyser. They're easy to miss if you aren't aware, heck I didn't even know about a few of them until I did a little research for this review.

Back to the main plot, Ed is preparing for Christmas like anyone would: Preparing treats for Santa, having a drawing...and literally taking the chimney in his house and moving it to his room. Double D enters Ed's house with Christmas cheer and a flower for him, having a brief conversation about the spirit of Christmas when suddenly Eddy barges in and vents to his friends, more specifically Double D while Ed just messes with the Christmas decorations and sneaks a Christmas light in Eddy's back pocket, about receiving horrible presents year after year. Double D scolds Eddy for his selfish nature, telling him to adopt a better attitude, this statement gives Eddy a spectacular idea: To put himself up for adoption so that he can get cool presents.

This scenes that follow in Eddy's plan are Ed, Edd, n Eddy doing what it does best: Infusing Character and Situation humor with Over the Top Slapstick as Eddy is going to the houses of multiple kids in the Cul-De-Sac trying to convince them to bring them in to his house. In each house he's treated to unique Christmas Traditions from the majority of the kids or just an average Christmas in itself and in each situation, Eddy can't strike any luck with the other kids (I'd go more into detail, but I don't want to spoil everything about this special, no matter how old it is...). During his pursuit, both Ed and Double try to convince Eddy that Christmas isn't about material possessions, but Eddy ain't having none of it.

But it eventually gets to a point where after multiple failed attempts, Eddy has nowhere or no one left to turn to. He watches as all the other kids have one other friend they're with and are enjoying the holiday festivities while he's alone venturing out into the cold. This scene in particular is very noteworthy as its one of the few times in Ed, Edd, n Eddy where Eddy seems genuinely remorseful for his actions in the episode. Not because he got caught or anything, but actual sadness and regret; and for the standards of the show, the scene where he's trudging through the show is a pretty quiet one and you get to soak in Eddy's sorrow. Eventually, Eddy comes across a tree that can't seem to light up. So, using the light Edd stashed into his back pocket earlier in the Episode, Eddy replaces one of the lights of the tree, in turn causing the tree to light up anew.

The Tree shines so brightly that the other kids are drawn to it. Ed and Double D congratulate Eddy and Eddy learns what the true meaning of Christmas is: That it's not about what you find under the tree, but rather what you find in your own heart. It's when he learns this lesson that Eddy has a huge red bag dumped on him and the jolly shouting of 'HO HO HO' is heard in the sky. Eddy looks inside he bag and he realizes that Santa's come and given the kids all their presents. Things are very joyous for the kids of the Cul-De-Sac and it seems that the show is going to end on a good note. And that's when Eddy steals all the presents for himself because he selflessly gave from the heart, he felt entitled to all the presents. The other two Eds chase after him to get the presents back, resulting in them getting into Rolf's shed. After a brief tug of war, The bag of presents are flung back to the other kids, while the Eds are trapped. At that moment, The Kanker Sisters arrive with their presents, converging their plot with the main one of the episode, and they decide to give the Eds their version of Christmas Cheer by smothering them in kisses. The episode ends with the Eds' cries of agony while the other kids sing "We Wish you a Merry Christmas".

Ed, Edd, n Eddy's Jingle, Jingle, Jangle is a very interesting Special to say the least. It puts its own spin on the "Christmas Episode" Formula with the Grinch Eddy looking to have his own Christmas Joy (In turn making everyone else's worse) while also making fun of it at the same time with its ending. Its a nice looking episode and the humor is up to snuff for Ed, Edd, n Eddy. It's one I would recommend for those that want something to laugh at, or at least be entertained by, this Christmas. It's certainly one I make a yearly tradition to watch.

Til next time folks, I'm The Shaman of Animation wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas!

Take Care...
