Greetings and Happy Halloween Ladies and Gents! It is I, The Shaman of Animation back again with a new review! Ah Halloween, the time of eating a crap ton of candy, watching all your favorite Horror films, and just being down right ashamed with some off the "Sexy" costumes that people have come up with, really just ONE Sexy Halloween costume this year.
The Harambe jokes have gone too far internet, they've gone too far...
But as this day was approaching, I realized there was something that I haven't done yet (And it's not Scooby-Doo Month gang, that one was dead this year). But you see, in this blog's history, I have covered every Ed, Edd n Eddy Holiday special, all saving one. And it's time to finally check this one off the list. Let's dive into Ed, Edd n Eddy's Boo Haw Haw.
The episode starts with Eddy and Double D running over Edd's house. Eddy has plans for him and his friends for this Halloween as he has a map given to him by his older brother to a place called "Spook-E-Ville", a neighborhood guaranteed to hand out loads of candy. Double D is skeptic of the place's existence, but Eddy manages to guilt trip him into tagging along. The two do eventually make it to Ed's where the big lug is in front of his TV, completely out of it as he's marathoning horror films. But they do eventually snap him out of it with their plans for the night.
In the next scene the Eds are decked out in their costumes (Eddy being a Zombie Elvis, Ed is a viking known as Lothar, and Double D is dressed as the Bubonic Plague). The trio begin their trek to Spook-E-Ville, but as Double D and Eddy walk ahead, Ed stops only a few steps in when he spots the Kanker sisters roasting Marshmallows and he starts to hallucinate.
This is actually where the brunt of the episodes humor stems from. Because of his movie marathon, Ed on this night will see the other kids from the show and hallucinates them as horrific creatures. The Kankers as witches, Jimmy as an alien, etc.,etc. And I have to give the show kudos for the way Ed's hallucinations are done. They look like horror films from the 1950's and the characters in Ed's visions look downright grotesque and horrifying. You could see why someone would freak out upon seeing them. And seeing how Ed handles each of these interactions and the other Eds' reactions to it more than make the episode.
But the episode goes on as this: The Eds make progress to getting to Spook-E-Ville, they run into another character triggering a hallucination from Ed, and Ed deals with the "threat", and they continue on their merry way to the neighborhood. This pattern continues on until the three make it to their destination. But, they are quick to find out that the map Eddy's brother gave them was nothing more than an elaborate prank and they end up right back where they started.
To make matters worse, the kids who Ed terrorized all night had gotten together to teach the Eds a lesson. Ed takes his friends down to a hole that was dug into the ground. Feeling his job has been done, Ed sheaths his spatula and wardrobe for the night and kicks back. Unfortunately for Eddy and Double D, the kids all find where they're hiding and give the two a pummeling for their antics. Ed all the while is watching the events take place, and has one final hallucination of Double D and Eddy frolicking and rolling around like innocent kids, putting an ironic spin on things as the episode ends
Boo Haw Haw was your standard plot for this series, but with a Halloween spin on things. The Eds have big plans for big success (The success in this instance being candy) their shenanigans end up crossing the other kids of the Cul-De-Sac and it ends not only with failure on the Eds' part, but a beating for the actions. While it's nothing you'd have to go out of your way to watch, it's also something you won't regret if you do watch.
But that is all for now you guys, I hope you've enjoyed this review and I hope you all have a very fun and safe Halloween. Til next time, I'm the Shaman of Animation
Take Care...
