The Lego Batman Movie Review

Greetings Ladies and Gents! It is I, The Shaman of Animation back once again with a brand new review! Today is Valentine's Day, a day of love, a day of being with that special someone and showering them with affection; and when I think of love, when I think of closeness, when I think of affection...I think of only one man: Batman; and yes, I waited to review this movie on Valentine's Day for this one joke. It's time to review The Lego Batman Movie!

The Lego Batman movie is a spinoff of the 2014 Lego Movie that sees Batman (Once again played by Will Arnett) taking out baddies in Gotham and being awesome as Batman does. But when the Joker hatches a new masterminded scheme, The Caped Crusader has to put a stop to it with the help of his new sidekick Robin (Played by Micheal Cera), new Gotham Commissioner Barbara Gordon (Played by Rosario Dawson) and trusted butler Alfred (Played by Ralph Fiennes).

As I love to do for movies like these, let me show some love to the cast. Will Arnett he's back in the saddle as Batman and he definitely brings his A game to his performance. The guy's simply hilarious and I couldn't picture anyone else performing this take on Batman other than him. He's definitely wormed his way into one of my favorite Batman VA's. Micheal Cera and Rosario Dawson did great jobs as Robin and Barbara respectively. Cera nailing being a hyper kid who's all over the place yet never crosses into being annoying and Dawson's just awesome as being a straight man to Batman's craziness sometimes.

But one of the most fun elements of the movie to me is Zach Galifianakis as the Joker and more importantly what they do with the Batman/Joker dynamic: one of the biggest, most explored, and most well known superhero vs villain dynamics will have you in tears. And that in itself plays a small part in a big strength for the movie in that the movie takes as many shots at Batman as it does parading how awesome he is. If you're someone who feels tired if seeing Batman's face on everything, this movie will get a laugh out of your with its poking fun at the sillier elements of the Caped Crusader's 75 year long history.

Speaking of the 75 year long history, if you're a Batman fan of any generation, the movie is chock full of references to the various movies, series and comics, and there is a joke that a person that has experienced Batman in any of his various mediums can get a good laugh at.

But even with all of this, The Lego Batman movie's biggest strength is that when you take away all the references and jokes, what you have is actually one of the most solid Batman plots put to film. This may go a little into spoilers so if you want to avoid that just skip to the next paragraph. It's a movie that does go into the psyche of Bruce Wayne, how he's still haunted by the death of his parents, not wanting to deal with this young orphan who parallels him in many ways and a new commissioner that doesn't like the way he operates in Gotham. Again there are so many moving pieces in the film that really takes elements of great Batman stories and molds them into a pretty good plot for this film.

If you couldn't guess it: I very much enjoyed the Lego Batman movie. It's not only a funny movie for Batman fans but it's a funny movie in general for all audiences. While I wouldn't say it's better than the Lego Movie, it's definitely a great film in its own right. I walked out the theater when it was all said and done very happy...which is more than I can say for the last DC Movie I saw in theaters...

And I'm STILL not interested in a Man of Steel sequel after what this movie did to Supes...

But that's all I have to say for this shorter review people. Til Next Time, I'm The Shaman of Animation. Take Care...
